Year 12 student? This is one week that could change your life.

The BDO Summer School is your chance to look ahead at your career options as you see first-hand the kind of work you could be doing as an Apprentice.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic we’re all making adjustments to our ways of working. So at this time, we are inviting registrations of interest in our Summer School programme, and we’ll keep you updated on how we’ll proceed in line with government guidance and our own assessment. In the meantime, you can find out what our programme is all about.

Over the course of one week you will shadow our teams to find out what it’s like to work for a professional services firm. If you’re curious about our Apprenticeship Programme and wondering whether to apply for it next year, this will help you make up your mind.

If you do well, you may be offered a place on our Apprenticeship Programme. But, there’s no commitment. Even if you take the placement and then decide BDO isn’t for you, you’ll have gained valuable insights and experience and added new skills to your CV.

How it works

We’ll ask you to choose a UK office as your base location and the business stream you would like to shadow. Then, on your first day, you’ll come to our London office where you’ll meet your fellow students, receive a general introduction to BDO, and take part in various group activities.

After this full-on introduction, you’ll spend the remaining four days at your local office. Now the experience really steps up a gear as you explore your selected business stream face-to-face. You will be shadowing your team as they work on projects, so you can learn what the job is really like.

At the end of the week, you’ll meet with a senior member of the firm. This is to gauge how much you’ve benefited from the Summer School. It’s also a chance to give us your feedback. By now, you should have a clearer idea as to what BDO is like, as well as what to expect if you continue a career with us.

You will be reimbursed for all reasonable travel incurred during the programme.

Making your application

You’ll need to choose a UK office that’s within 1.5 hours travelling distance of your home (or somewhere you can arrange your own accommodation). You will spend most of your week working at this office and, if you chose to continue your career with us, this will be your Apprenticeship training location. Apply using our online application form.

Entry requirements

You need to be in Year 12 to be eligible, and you must also meet the following entry requirements:

  • Predicted to achieve three A Levels A*-C in any subject (excluding General Studies and Extended Projects)
  • A 9-4 in Maths and English at GCSE

Be free to attend the programme at your local office on the advised dates.
