From induction to qualification, combining study with a challenging job, the next few years are going to stretch you.

We want you to succeed as much as you do. Together we’ll shape a learning and development path that’s right for you.

You’ll join either our Audit & Assurance, Advisory, Tax or Business Services & Outsourcing department (we call them ‘streams’) where you’ll study for your professional qualification. During your programme you’ll have the opportunity to explore some of the different specialities within your stream, and potentially gain exposure to other areas of the business. This will allow you to grow your portfolio of skills, and experience a breadth of opportunity to increase your future options and build a platform to develop your career.

Whether you’re based in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Glasgow, Guildford, Ipswich, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Norwich, Nottingham, Reading or Southampton, we offer the same high-quality support and opportunities. You’ll combine a real job with paid study leave to work towards recognised industry qualifications. We’ll support you during your exams and we’ll cover your study and exam fees. Along the way, you’ll enjoy excellent coaching and mentoring. We’re here with you the whole way.

First steps

Your welcome to the firm begins several weeks before your official start date. We’ll provide you with a wide range of information that prepares you for your future role, and helps you plan your studies.

We kick things off with an intensive one-day induction for around 400 new graduate and apprentice joiners. This is when we’ll introduce you to life at the firm. It’s your chance to get to know fellow trainees from across the UK, as well as several partners and managers, and begin building a strong network at BDO. You’ll also hear from the dedicated Professional Qualifications team who will support you during your first few years.

Induction continues back at your local office, where we’ll offer events and resources tailored to your specific area of work. We want to get you up and running as a fully-fledged member of the team as soon as possible.

Always there to support you

Returning to your local office, you’ll get stuck into a real job. You’ll work alongside more experienced colleagues on live assignments, developing your commercial and client skills as you go. From day one, you can count on an extensive network of support, including mentors, partners and an individual counselling manager. They’ll help you to settle in, find the best ways to meet the challenges you face and to achieve your full potential. You’ll also be assigned a buddy (a more experienced colleague) and you can use the Professional Qualifications team to support you through your exams. We know this is a challenging period and we will help you in any way we can.

Your training

You’ll study for your professional qualification through a mixture of self-taught and classroom sessions. We make sure you have sufficient study time and support. Safe to say our results are excellent!

We also ensure you have the specialist knowledge and practical tools you’ll need for your business area and offer training in a range of personal, management, client service and client-winning skills. Together, they will help you to become a fully rounded BDO adviser. Successful completion of the programme results in a Level 7 Accountancy/Taxation Apprenticeship* alongside your professional qualification.
