In Global Employer Services (GES), we recognise that reducing the tax take from business at the same time as keeping staff motivated and productive is a challenging task for all employers. As part of our specialist GES Tax team, you would help to support businesses by providing a full range of expertise across employment taxes, share plans and incentive planning and expatriate taxes.

Whether you join us as an apprentice or a graduate, you will form an important part of a team who are focused on the issues confronting employers today and who delivers fast, accurate and practical advice. Whilst compliance is central to us serving our clients, advisory work around developing strategic solutions that are commercially sound, cost-effective and ensuring that key talent is retained and incentivised is at our core. Whatever employee benefits and incentives our clients wish to offer, it is vital that they understand and apply the correct tax treatment from the start, for example:

  • Our Employment Tax specialists will help clients to set and maintain their Senior Accounting Officer and Corporate Criminal Offence strategy, they will stress test clients systems, negotiate on contentious matters with HMRC and advise on employment status and remuneration packages, such as flexible benefit arrangements.
  • Our share plan and incentive specialists support businesses to build staff engagement using a wide variety of share plans and will help to shape detailed executive compensation packages as well as working closely with private equity houses and entrepreneurs to advise them on exit planning.
  • Our specialists in expatriate taxes focus on the need for many employers to have an internationally mobile workforce. They advise on all related tax and international social security issues, working closely with colleagues in BDO’s international network. They deliver cost reviews for international assignees, prepare their personal tax returns and ensure that our clients’ global HR systems are robust enough to identify the complex tax and social security issues which can arise.

As the majority of our work is consultancy based, you will be expected to support senior staff by attending meetings and calls with both clients and HMRC from the early days of your career so that you start to develop a professional approach to client relationships at an early stage. It should go without saying that exceptional service is key. Trainees joining GES will study towards their CTA qualification as well as gaining their level 7 apprenticeship.
