Wherever legal proceedings involve issues of accounting, you will find forensic accountants. Ours is one of the most successful forensic practices in the UK, comprising of wide-ranging experts in dispute resolution, professional negligence, investigations and forensic technology.

Our clients include UK and international companies, professional firms, regulators, governments and not-for-profit organisations. In Forensic Accounting you will need to be a good problem solver and have excellent analytical skills. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount in the work we do, as is the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and through written work. Much of our work is team based; so good team working skills are essential.

There is no such thing as a typical assignment in Forensic Accounting. Our work can involve providing litigation support to clients and lawyers, acting as expert accountants in legal cases, investigating instances of fraud and undertaking regulatory investigations. So if you like a variety of work and regularly facing new challenges, then Forensic Accounting could be for you.

You could be part of a team working on any of the following type of assignments, in both the UK and overseas:

  • Providing expert accountancy services to companies involved in disputes;
  • Reviewing professional negligence claims made against other large audit firms;
  • Performing regulatory investigations for government departments and agencies;
  • Quantifying losses arising from contractual disputes; or
  • Acting as an independent accountant engaged to provide a determination on disputed issues between two companies or bodies.

As part of your three year training contract in Forensic Accounting you will be seconded to our Audit and Assurance department for up to six months each year. This will enable you to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge which you can apply in your studies and in your future work in Forensic Accounting.

Professional qualifications

As a trainee in Forensic Accounting, which sits within our Forensic Services business, you will study the following:

  • ACA (from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) or CA (from ICAS) in Scotland

We help you to enhance this learning with our initial Professional Development programme, through which you can develop the necessary personal, commercial and technical skills. Most of all, you will learn to exercise professional judgement in real situations.
